“The righteous perish, and no one takes it to heart; the devout are taken away, and no one understands that the righteous are taken away to be spared from evil. Those who walk uprightly enter into peace; they find rest as they lie in death.”
Isaiah 57:1-2 NIV
Death is hard, but some deaths are harder to understand than others. Infants, lost before they know the love of their parent’s arms; young people just beginning to learn and explore life; and adults who shouldn’t be gone so soon.
Why does it happen? Often there is no earthly answer, or at least not one that we feel comfortable accepting. But God knows that this world is an evil place, and in His love for His children, He sometimes chooses to keep us safe from that evil by removing us from its grasp.
Is it any less painful for those left behind? No. But let us find comfort in knowing that those we love will never suffer and are at peace.
